ALR/Patriot Guard Welcome Home Ride

1st SGT Gregory Kober

Friday December 22, 2006

US Army 1st Sgt Gregory Kober is coming home from Afghanistan on leave, arriving at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport Friday 22 December at 17:10 (5:10pm).  His wife Eileen has requested that we welcome him at the airport.  He reports for duty on 7 January and will return to Afghanistan after that.

1st Sgt Kober's home unit is the 287th Brigade at Central and Edgemoor.  He was deployed with the 35th Infantry Division 3rd Forward out of Ft. Leavenworth.  His current assignment in Afghanistan is Camp Blackhorse at the 201st RCAG HG in Pol-w-Charkhi, Afghanistan.

Earlier this year we stood guard at the funeral of Sgt Robert Simon in Wichita.  Sgt Simon was one of 1st Sgt Kober's dearest and best friends.   1st Sgt Kober was unable to attend that funeral due to the timing of leaving the country.  He also lost a soldier from his unit this fall -  Master Sgt Deghand - whom we stood guard for in Topeka.
