Our ALR Post 4 Wichita
Road Captain, Dave Wells, is in need of help. Dave's son,
D.J., has been in the hospital for nearly a month now. D.J.
is 18, and has a blood clot in both lungs, as well as one in
his leg, for no apparent reason. The doctors have taken
dozens of tests. Thankfully all have came back negative,
but they are still are at a loss for what is causing them.
He had surgery today to remove fluid from his right lung. I
visited him at Wesley this afternoon and he is in a lot of
pain, on a morphine drip, a tube draining his lung, as well
as other tubes. Dave's wife, Wanda, was laid off last
month. Dave is self-employed doing yard work, and is a
handy man for anyone needing help. Dave is an extremely hard
worker and very proud man who would never ask for help, but
I asked him point-blank today how they are doing
financially. Wanda still has insurance coverage for another
couple of months as part of her severance package, but the
deductible will be $3,000.00. Needless to say, Dave has
missed a lot of work lately to be with his son. To make
matters worse, after we were working on a flag pole
yesterday that we are installing at a senior center in
Wichita, his head gasket blew on his truck which he uses to
haul his equipment around in. His truck is now at the shop
getting repaired. I know that many of you know Dave and want
to help, so please send what you can to either myself, or
our treasurer, Terry Cooke. You can make the check out
either to Dave Wells, or ALR Post 4, whichever you prefer,
but it will all go to Dave & Wanda.
